Bin HUA
Cosplay Culture, Chinese Youth, Public spaces
Being amazed by the Japanese ‘Empire of Signs’, HUA Bin took his academic adventure in Tokyo and obtained his MA in Educational Science and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Tokyo. Returning to Beijing where he was born and bred, HUA Bin paid frequent visits to numerous Cosplay scenes and was taken away by new phenomena that arose his interests in an academic way. In order to explore Cosplay Culture in a more international context, Bin’s research explored the interactive relations among Chinese Youth, Public spaces in the cities, and the development of the new media structure through a close-up participant observation of Cosplay Culture in the context of Mainland China. More generally, he is interested in culture practice and the formation of youth identity in public spaces.
